Portugal e promete fazer relembrar alguns dos momentos mais criativos dentro do movimento gótico de vanguarda. Os fatos, cinzentos à custa de muita poeira acumulada, saem das malas de criaturas que parecem viajantes do tempo. Estes feiticeiros do som de inspiração telemática musicaram mandamentos do rock gótico como «Moonchild» ou «Blue Water» e, nesta há muita aguardada estreia em território nacional, vão mostrar que o revivalismo dos anos 80 também se pode celebrar no lado negro.


Magia, misticismo e obscurantismo juntam-se na celebração de quase um quarto de século de existência. Depois da aventura de Carl McCoy com The Nephilim tudo se renova finalmente em nome de uma única entidade – que é o verdadeiro símbolo da cultura de vanguarda, nascida quando ainda despontava a década de 80. Os Fields Of The Nephilim surgirão no meio da neblina, para actuar no Coliseu do Porto, a 6 de Fevereiro de 2010.

Os Fields Of The Nephilim são uma banda de rock gótico, que começou a dar os primeiros passos no início da década de 80, a sul de Londres. A formação original do grupo – Carl McCoy na voz, Paul Wright na guitarra, Tony Pettitt no baixo, Nod Wright na bateria e Gary Whisker no saxofone – gravou apenas um EP (o raríssimo «Burning The Fields», de 1985), mas percebeu-se desde cedo que eventualmente acabariam por dar que falar. Inspirado liricamente pelo mito de Cthulhu, pela mitologia suméria e por Aleister Crowley, Carl McCoy, cara e mentor do projecto, explorava uma abordagem apocalíptica ao imaginário visual dos western spaghetti de Sergio Leone e essa conjugação de elementos, aliada a uma sonoridade que misturava rock gótico, metal e também algum psicadelismo bem obscuro, deu ao quinteto a sua personalidade muito própria. Os singles «Power» e «Preacher Man», apoiados em imponentes actuações ao vivo, permitiram-lhes dar os primeiros passos em relação ao estatuto de culto que conquistaram finalmente com a edição do seu primeiro registo de longa-duração, em 1987. «Blue Water», single retirado de «Dawnrazor», marcou a estreia dos Fields Of The Nephilim na tabela de vendas do Reino Unido e, com ajuda de uma primeira digressão europeia, espalhou em mais larga escala a identidade mórbida, mística, sombria e misteriosa personificada por McCoy e companhia. A popularidade do grupo aumentou ainda mais com a edição de «The Nephilim» em 1988 e, dois anos depois, «Elizium» permitiu-lhes estabelecerem um culto a nível mundial.

Confirmando rumores de instabilidade no seio do colectivo, Carl McCoy anuncia o seu abandono em 1991 e os Fields Of The Nephilim separam-se depois de dois concertos de despedida em Londres. O disco ao vivo «Earth Inferno», o vídeo «Visionary Heads» e a colectânea «Revelations» são editados a título póstumo, enquanto McCoy grava «Zoon» com os Nefilim e os seus ex-companheiros se envolvem numa série de novos projectos – Rubicon, Last Rites – que não fizeram grande história. A 15 de Agosto de 1998, McCoy e o baixista Tony Pettitt anunciam o seu plano de recuperação dos Fields Of The Nephilim e, dois anos depois, é editado o single «One More Nightmare (Trees Come Down)». A banda, cuja formação ficava agora completa com músicos dos Nefilim, dá então os primeiros concertos em nove anos, mas quando o álbum «Fallen» chega aos escaparates os dois membros fundadores já se tinham desentendido novamente e o vocalista demarcou-se rapidamente do lançamento. Depois de mais alguns anos de silêncio profundo, «Mourning Sun», o quatro álbum “ a sério” dos Fields Of The Nephilim, é finalmente editado a 28 de Novembro de 2005 – 15 anos após o lançamento de «Elizium» a banda volta ao activo com uma atitude ainda mais dura. Depois de espectáculos marcantes no Sheperd's Bush Empire (em Londres) e de aparições de destaque em festivais de renome como o Wave Gotik Trefen e M'era Luna, a estreia em Portugal desta banda icónica acontece no próximo dia 6 de Fevereiro.
